Etiwanda, Cucamonga, Bighorn, Ontario 7/24/11

Yesterday was the day I learned that I am not a fast hiker. Any one of the suckers I've hiked with will tell you that Matt and I are extreme hikers not to be messed with, but they've never hiked with the Socal Hikers and Peakbaggers. These crazy 'baggers climbed five mountains for a total of 20 miles and >8000' elevation gain in under 11 hours. From now on, I'm just gonna claim that I saunter because John Muir said it was okay.

We skipped the first peak on the trip (Timber Mountain) hoping it would help us keep up the rest of the way.

It didn't.

We weren't far behind for most of the day, but by the time we got back down to the Icehouse Saddle from Ontario Peak, it was time to give up and hobble down the final 3.6 miles at our own saunterly pace.
